To quote the Grinch...

"But WHAT will I wear??!"

Trying to figure out your outfit, let alone your family's outfit, can be super stressful - I get it! I hope these tips help you find the perfect clothes to make your visions come true!

Tip #1: Neutral Color Palettes

Instead of trying to match the exact same shade of a color, I suggest picking a color palette that you enjoy! Neutral or earth tones are my personal favorites: olives, blues, creams, and tans work SO well together and can compliment pretty much any environment.

Want a specific color, like pink or navy? That's great too! Pinterest is my Go-To: just search "pink color palette" and you'll be all set!

Tip #2: Patterns

I LOVE a patterned dress! And don't even get me started on those adorable kid's shirts. There are so many cute options to choose from, and they can really make your photos stand out! But be sure to use it in moderation.

I suggest having one person in a pattern or statement piece, and have everyone else wear colors that are in the pattern. Putting multiple people in patterns can make the photos really busy and chaotic - not something you want to hang on your wall!

Tip #3: Pops of Color

Much like patterns, pops of color are a great way to make your photos tell a story and stand out. But also like patterns, too much of a good thing is, well, sometimes too much!

You can have someone in a great pop of color, and have everyone else in colors that compliment it! Neutrals make for great options that can go with almost any vibrant color, or Pinterest is another great source.

Of course, you can message me and I'll help build a color palette too, centered around whatever outfit you like!

Tip #4: It's All in the Details

A photo session is the perfect opportunity to treat yourself!

I will more than likely be doing some closeups on rings and hands, so getting rings cleaned and a mani/pedi is always a fun way to prep for your photos!

It's also the perfect time to get your hair trimmed, add some fun accessories, or put together a letter board to make your session that much more unique.

And don't forget the belts! Belts, watches, and ties are a great option for making your photos a special occasion.

Tip #5: Things to Avoid

  • Shoes:
  • I'm a fan of comfort over style! So I understand if you want to wear some comfortable sneakers to a session. Just be sure they look fresh and clean - your every day kicks may not be the best choice
  • Bring some comfortable shoes for walking, but bring nice shoes for the photos. We can walk to the spot, then slip on your nice shoes for the photos! And before we walk again, we'll switch back over to comfort!
  • Slides are generally a no-go, but can make for great in-between-photos shoes!
  • Neon colors:
  • Often found in athletic wear, but in other styles too, neon colors aren't generally a good place to start. Color-casting (where the color of what you're wearing or surrounded by is reflected back onto your skin) can make for some really off skin-tones. Try to keep the neons to a minimum!
  • Spray tans:
  • You'll have these photos forever - take the time to go to a professional tanning salon if you want to get a tan or spray tan! It can be pretty hard to reach some areas, and it always feels great when you know that it's in the hands of the pros!

Biggest Tip of ALL!:

Wear what makes you feel AMAZING!

Have a favorite shirt that you love how it sits? Wear it!

Love the way a certain color looks on you? Plan your color palette around it!

Adore a certain outfit you got for the kiddos? Go for it!

Above all else, these photos are going to tell the story of YOU.

Let your clothes help tell that story!
