Are you nervous..
about how your kiddos will act during their session? Are you worried they won't laugh or smile; or maybe they'll be laughing too much for the family portrait? What about temper tantrums and fits?
In reality, all those things are possibilities and being anxious about it is normal. How we photograph your family is fully dependent on the kiddos! But that doesn't have to be an intimidating experience. With some tips and tricks, we can bypass most issues and enjoy your session to the fullest extent!

Get them excited!
The prep all starts before the session begins! Getting them excited to be in front of the camera and to be with family will lead to great moments. Here's some ways to do that:
- When you talk about it, show how excited you are
- Let them know it's ok to be nervous, but give them ways to work through it. Some cute ways include hugging, cuddles, or tickles. Or, be sure in the questionnaire to tell me what TV shows/characters they like, so that I can ask about them! Tell the kiddos I like that show/character too but they know wayyyyyy more than I do, and I would like to learn from them!
- Practice taking pictures at home. Take photos of them on your phone, let them take photos of you, etc.
- Practice smiles when doing this! They're going to want to do big goofy grins, little itty bitty grins, and silly faces. Show them the differences between those, and a "nice" smile!
- Show them a picture of me! You can find them on my website or my social media. This way they know what I look like and know what to expect

Snacks and Naps!
- No one likes to be hangry! Especially little ones. Bring along everyone's favorite snacks or an extra bottle.
- This is also helpful with bribery! Don't be afraid to use it! The promise of a sweet treat can go a LONG way in helping kids behave for a few sweeter photos!
- Everyone in the family should get a good night's rest the night before. Slide in naps if possible too!
- Kiddos can get pretty cranky an hour before their nap time, or when just waking up. Be sure our scheduled session time doesn't start during those times!

- Give yourself extra extra time to get ready. Be sure to dedicate time to each child AND yourself so that everyone feels comfortable and happy - and not rushed!
- Have your outfits preplanned. A run to the store for a shirt the day of can frazzle anyone.
- Unsure about outfits? Check out this guide!
- And every booking confirmation comes with a Pinterst Board to help with even more ideas. Plus, I can help curate your family wardrobe!
Remember - kids are kids! They've got tons of energy and I try to use that energy to our advantage. We may get photos of them by themselves jumping or running to use up that fuel in between beautiful family portraits.
Be prepared as the kiddos may need a tickle monster or two to help them laugh! They may not be too willing to smile for a strange lady behind a camera at first, and though I'll do my best to make them comfortable, you knowing how to make them giggle will definitely help!

Most importantly: Be Yourselves!!
There still may be some fussing at a session - just roll with it! That's the beautiful thing about families. Each family is a unique blend of smiling and crying, of giggling and fussing, of laughing and loving. I strive to capture it all in my family sessions. Let's book yours today!
